NORFOLK MILITIA (Heritage) REGIMENT

Fall newsletter

(sent on behalf of your executive by Ruth Schumaker)
As the 2004 season nears its end, it seems to be time for a newsletter to update members on a few coming events. Most important is the upcoming Annual Meeting. After an eventful year for your executive and officers on the field, it is a time to get together to review and plan. Please come if possible. If you cannot come, send any concerns to a member of the executive.

Also note that the Chatham event and the Ladies Weekend require pre-registration.

Annual Meeting
  • Sunday, October 31st, at 1 p.m.
  • St. Paul's Parish Hall, St. George Street, Port Dover.
This meeting is used to review this season events, receive a financial report from the Treasurer, elect the executive, make plans for next year and give members the opportunity to discuss the operation of the Norfolks.

ELECTIONS
Last year, there was a change in the election of the executive which answered some members' concerns about the number of open positions. This will continue with the election of the executive for the coming year.

A chairman, vice-chairman and three members-at-large will be elected. The three members-at-large may or may not fill the positions of treasurer, quartermaster and secretary. If not, these positions will be filled by appointment or by volunteers. This means next year's executive could have five elected members and three non-voting members.

To be elected, a member must be nominated and seconded from the floor. That person must accept the nomination or decline to stand (An absent member may send a written acceptance of a nomination if he knows that he will be nominated for a position). If more than one person is nominated for a position, an election by secret ballot is held.

DUTIES OF EXECUTIVE
he chairman runs the day- to-day business of the unit. He organizes executive and annual meetings, responds to correspondence, replies to event invitations, handles problems that crop up and interacts with other units.

The vice-chairman handles the duties of the chairman when he is not available and any duties assigned by the executive.

The treasurer handles the financial affairs of the unit, the quartermaster is responsible for the transportation and care of the unit's equipment and the secretary takes and distributes minutes of meetings.

Currently the executive consists of Russ Greatrex as Acting Chairman,, Don Charuk, Ruth Schumaker, Jon Bowman and Ken Gamble. Ruth Schumaker is Treasurer and Jon Bowman, quartermaster. Larry Hanna is our Captain.

AGENDA
If you have an item you would like to place on the agenda, please contact a member of the executive in advance of the meeting. This will ensure it gets properly discussed. There are several important issues to be discussed at this meeting and hopefully as many people will attend as possible.
